ok, so my in laws have arrived! yay! i am really having fun with my brother and sister-in-law. interestingly enough, i thought me and my sister in law have more in common, but actually it's me and my 17-year old brother-in-law that do! he loves literature, writing and is well-read! yes, he is 17! we have such great conversations and he also loves word games.
my sister-in-law is also cool. we are just very different. she is into shopping, talking on the phone, (all the time to her husband in ghana), talking about having babies, asking me when i am going to have babies (sigh), asking me which sandals she should wear with an outfit, talking about hair weaves (SIGH), etc. i really like her and she is cool, but we are just very different. they came in late on friday night. i cooked for them and it was great, they loved the food! on saturday, we went to explore downtown brooklyn. i took them to a mall. his sister didnt change her canadian dollars (which i don't understand) and wanted to buy clothing at a store. i told her they wouldn't accept canadian dollars. she just kept holding the things in her hand, as if I SHOULD BUY IT? REALLY? i didn't say anything and i think she got the point...but still it made me uncomfortable. sigh. that kind of really annoyed me. ok so it continues. all this time, her brother and i are having so much fun chatting.
when my hubby came home from work, he cooked a traditional ghanaian dish called jollof rice with some baked chicken. the food came out good, but the rice was a bit soft. however it did taste good. i wanted to take his sister out to a club with me and a very close friend of mine. she decided that she wanted to hang out with her husband's best friend (who lives in nyc). cool. she left around 8pm. the guy came to pick her up. she didn't come home until about 3am, complaining of everything that went wrong. they guy's girlfriend was jealous of her, called the police, mad drama. i couldn't believe it. i said to myself, this is your husband's best friend? hmm. so anyway, she comes in late, after calling 100 times in the middle of the night, because she couldn't remember the address, which honestly, annoyed me in the middle of my sleep. anyhow, she finally comes in, and my husband and i, along with his brother were already asleep because it was already 3am. she goes: "i'm hungry!" i go : "you didn't eat." in my head i'm thinking what kind of asshole took you out that didn't even care if you ate?! she goes, no we got there late, blah. blah, blah.....so...we go into the kitchen and my husband put aside a plate for her. she looks at the food and goes: "what is this? this is not how this food is made? yuck?" she does this before even tasting the food. then of course when she tastes it, she goes..."this doesn't taste good at all!"
i was so mad and became defensive of my husband, expressing the time he took to make it and stating how good the rice was despite its softness! my husband was asleep at this time so she didnt hear this (thankfully). this morning as soon as she woke up, she came into the kitchen and said to my husband: "the rice was really bad....." can you believe that????? i was so mad... i don't dislike her, i just think my sis-in-law is a bit immature....hmmmm.
ok we are off to times square! that should be fun....i realize that the way i see my husband is different from how his siblings see him. family love vs. initmate/friendship/marital love...hmmm.
interesting.
more to come soon!
peace & nappiness

it is so interesting that you have more in common with the 17 year old, but for some reason reason i figured you wouldn't have much in common with the girl. :oP i'm glad you're going out and exploring the city at least. and be patient with her. if your husband's not annoyed, then i'm sure you'll find a way to put up with her differences, too. :oP oh and i can't wait to see you on friday! btw, you can totally use our baby's nickname ... i just never use her actual full name on my blog. :o)
