my in-laws....arriving TOMORROW!!!

ok so this has been a week filled with anxiety as my in-laws are coming tomorrow. my husband's brother and sister to be exact. his sister is 23 and married (not coming with her husband) and his brother is 17. let me tell you why i am nervous. first of all, my husband has to work for most of the time they will be here, therefore, i will have to spend most of the time with them! first of all, i don't know either of them that well, so you can imagine how i feel. also, the question of food, activities, etc. today we went food shopping and filled the house. when they arrive, i will be in charge of the cooking, etc. but seriously, i feel overwhelmed. i am on vacation and honestly, vacation to me means writing and doing nothing! today we cleaned and scrubbed for hours on end...i hated it! i hate preparing for guests. it's just too much pressure for me. when it's my family, i don't care, but my husband's family, i just feel nervous. perhaps it's because they live in canada. sigh.

i explained my nervousness/anxiety to my husband and he seemed so nonchalant...he said things like "don't worry, it will be fine, etc." but for some reason, that doesn't calm me down. did i mention they are staying until next thursday?! that is a LONG TIME. how can i use the bathroom in peace? and sleep? my wonderful husband suggested that we give his brother and sister OUR BEDROOM, while we sleep on the couch for the next 6 NIGHTS! WTF? is that rationale to you? i am your WIFE for god's sake...you don't mind me sleeping on a damn couch bed? UGH! i feel like i sound selfish. i guess i'm frustrated because his family pretty much invited themselves (particularly his sister) without considering scheduling, etc. if they did, they would have come on a tues night so that my husband could have weds and thurs to chill with them. but NO, they are arriving on a FRIDAY night and i am gonna have to be ms hostess for the next 6 days. sigh.

although i am excited and looking forward to knowing them more etc., i will also need my free time in order to survive. how can i incorporate my own free time without making my husband feel bad? sigh again. i guess it will all work itself out....i still have to clean the bathroom and scrub the tub. sigh. that is my least favorite job!

i don't know how well i will sleep tonite.

am i being selfish?

peace and nappiness

p.s. because we will be sleeping on the couch bed in the living room, does that mean no sex for the next 6 days? sigh again. sigh. sigh. fuckin sigh.
p.p.s did i mention that my mom is in town also????

guests! guests! and more guests! gee, your post doesn't make you sound as excited as you sounded over the phone! hehehehe. but rightfully so. preparing for your husband's family's visit is overwhelming for all the reasons you mentioned. but, set that aside, and start planning ways that you can take them out and show them the town. remember, you don't have to babysit them or hold their hands all day. plus, they're kinda-sorta in our age group and, at the very least, should enjoy some of the same things you enjoy about the city, etc. take them to museums and parks and the movies and times square or rent movies and get some popcorn. there's tons of things to do! you're going to learn a lot about your husband by spending time with his siblings. yes, you'll have to cook sometimes (because, culturally, it's expected of the woman) and you'll have to keep a tidy home and make sure they're entertained. but don't forget to take time for yourself, too. i'm sure they don't want to be shadowing for the entire six days, 24/7, just as much as you don't want that. :oP as for the bed, definitely sleep in your own bed. first of all, they are brother and sister ... why would they need one bed for the two of them? if they use the living room, one can use the couch and perhaps the other can use a sleeping bag on the floor. the marital bed is typically offered for other married couples unless you have a full bed in your living room. at least that's how my parents always did it for my sis and her husband. then again, it's the freakin' marital bed! no one needs it but the two of you! anyway, this comment is long .... enjoy your time! i'm sure you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised with how much fun you can have with them!
