love is in the air

i am in love, and it feels good. today my husband and i went food shopping and it was fun. we got some great fish: red snapper and he is currently cooking it at this very moment. it smells good and i cannot wait to eat.

although his adjustment to this country has been filled with ups and downs, i think there has been more ups than downs and i feel that we are really in a good place. it feels good. he now takes the train everywhere by himself and feels comfortable. when he first got here, he would cringe at all of the people in this city and how crowded everything seemed. now he seems like a true new yorker.

teaching is going well. the school year is winding down, and i must say that professionally i feel great. i really made a difference in my classroom and it shows. some of my worst students (ie: marcos) is now one of the best students in my class. he wrote an amazing essay the other day. i am just so proud! even though david is still a talkaholic, seeing him every day makes me smile. and of course there is zawditu, who is now starting her locs....ahhhhh....I LOVE MY STUDENTS!

i got another call today to teach at a charter school in manhattan next year. it is called the ross school. honestly, the school seems really intense, with a college-style curriculum (at the jhs level) and longer work days (with much more pay)....but i am starting to wonder if a charter school is really for me? hmmmm. my interview is on may 22nd. i look forward to checking out the school. the high school in my neighborhood is hiring! honestly, that is the place where i really want to work. it is down the block and i can WALK to work! could you imagine how amazing that would be? it is a small alternative high school and another teach for america person works there and told me he loves it! small class sizes and all. ahhhh....i hope i hear back from them. they say they take 2 weeks to contact you and i just sent them my resume on saturday....cross your fingers. do i go for more money? or do i go for comfort + a neighborhood school? hard choices.

ok, the food is almost ready. i guess it's time to go for now.

peace & nappiness

both choices sound amazing! more pay is always nice, although the school nearby does have a recommendation from a TFA person and it's close. now, remember, since it's closer, you might see your students more than you think and people will start to know you're a teacher and treat you as such, which can be odd if they make you feel super old 'cause you teach. at least this has been my experience thus far. still, a close that is close and recommended can definitely beat a school that merely offers more money. good luck with the interviews, though! :o)

i'm so happy you're so in love!

i'm happy that your students have progressed so much! many of my students have made a year or two of progress in reading or, at least, ECLAS, and, as a first year teacher, I can only hope that I had something to do with that! :oP
